D: The event was held in the King Edward Hotel on King Street, Toronto. I’d never been in this hotel before (the last one was at the Shangri-La). It was super nice inside (the outside is maybe a bit dated, I was amused by the bare wires hanging out of the speaker connection on the front steps), but a gorgeous lobby and the area that the event was held in was beautiful. I’m interested in trying a night or two stay there, cool old hotel. Walking up the stairs to head to the event, Macallan had set up a number...…
Chicken Piccata
D: I was given free reign to choose the recipe (largely because Steph was busy this weekend), so, wanting to get into the Alton cookbook, I chose that. We’re going with Chicken Picatta, since it sounded freakin delicious. Breaded chicken in a wine and mushroom sauce, how can you go wrong? Ingredients:## 3 oz white wine 4 oz chicken broth 1 lemon, sliced into 8 wafer-thin slices 1/2 lemon, juiced (1 1/2TBsp juice) 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs 2 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper, more for serving 1 C AP flour 3 TBsp unsalted butter (we...…
Baked BBQ Pork Bao
D: I’ve been wanting to do baked bao for quite a while. I harass Steph about it pretty near every weekend [S: Pooooork Buuuuuuuunnssss], and I haven’t gotten around to it. So finally it happens. This is basically a 2-part recipe: I’m trying out a recipe for Milk Bread, as well as trying a recipe for the pork bun filling. The hope was to kill 2 birds with one stone, since the bread is a flexible base for more chinese-style baking. So hopefully, at least one of the parts will turn out well. Ingredients:## Bun### 2/3C heavy cream (at room...…
French 75 & Apple Martini Part II
D: So this week, just based on scheduling; we’re going to do a drink post on a Monday, I’ll be putting something together for later in the week as a food post. We got distracted by the new MEC opening down the street, and I kind of ended up buying a bike trainer. Steph is a bad influence. On the plus side: I CAN RIDE SASHA INDOORS IN THE WINTER! IT’S BEEN SO LONG! I’m likely going to document my adventures in baked bbq pork bao that will be occuring tomorrow, for Thursday. So we’ll see how that turns out....…
Sex On The Beach & Adam's Apple Martini
D: Sex On The Beach for Steph; which is a classic. And I tried.. a very random one. I had intended to do an Appletini (EAAAAAAAAAAGLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE), but with the recipes I found they recommended Apple Brandy. So I grabbed Calvados. Turns out I should have grabbed Sourpuss for a modern Appletini (Sour Apple vs Apple), and this is maybe a bit dated. It should be interesting though. HER DRINK:## [Sex On The Beach] Ingredients:## 2 parts Vodka 2 parts Cranberry juice 1 parts Peach schnapps 2 parts Orange juice Needed items:## Highball Glass Fill a highball glass with ice. Add...…
New York Cheesecake
D: Cheesecake! My Aunt Wanda had a request for a cheesecake recipe, so this week we’re trying this Epicurious recipe: Original New York Cheesecake. I can’t say I’ve ever put cornstarch in my cheesecakes, or cream, so this should be quite interesting. It’s decsribed as the best, and the proper original New York style Cheesecake. So it will be an interesting experiment if anything. The style also uses a cake crust rather than pressed graham crumbs. So it’s a 2-parter. We’ll see how it goes on both counts; reviews etc. claim that it’s going to blow our minds, but we’ll...…
